The League
As well as the annual fishing festival, Filey Brigg Sea Angling
Society hold a winter league running from the first Monday in
October through until the last Monday of February. The league itself
is split into 3 subsections. League B is fished on an any fish basis
and is the league where any new members will find themselves
competing. At the end of the fishing season the top 3 anglers in
League B win promotion to League A with the 3 lowest placed members
in that league going in the opposite direction. Again league A is
fished on an any fish basis (northern federation size limits apply).
The third league within the Filey fishing club is a cod only league
which is self explanatory. The winner of the individual leagues is
the angler with the heaviest aggregate weight of fish over the 5
months of the league season.
The Matches
There are 3 matches each week : Monday evening start time 6.30pm
weigh in by 10.30pm, Wednesday evening start time 6.30pm weigh in by
10.30pm, Saturday afternoon start time 3.00pm weigh in by 7.00pm.
Entry fees are £2 for each match you book into, booking in can be
done by phoning Mr Frank Colling on 01723 515430 and must be done
prior to match commencing. Only anglers who are subscribed members
of the Filey angling club. The annual subscription fee is: £10 for
full membership, £5 for OAP's, £2 for ladies and juniors. A full
lifetime membership is £100. Anglers may enter all 3 matches each
week but only their best weight for the week will count towards the
weekly results. The club also has a Junior section which is open to
young anglers from the area. Juniors are allowed to fish up until
their 16th birthday in the Junior section, however, if a Junior
members birthday falls after the Winter League has started, then
they can fish the rest of the season as a Junior. Entry fee's for
Juniors are £1 per match entered. The weigh ins are held at the club
HQ which is in the alleyway behind the old Filey Fishing Tackle Shop
and the Imperial Public House on Hope Street.
