Dear Member

Welcome to the 2018 spring/summer newsletter.

The society held its Annual Winter Fishing Presentation in March at the Buccaneer and was once again well attended, with prizes on the evening presented by Martin and Connie from one of our main festival supporters Dixons Discount Warehouse. A league winner was Mally Skelton, B league winner was Billy Colling. Congratulations to all the winners and all the anglers who competed in the Winter League .A big congratulations to Richard Johnson with a fine cod of 9lb 12 caught in week 4 of the winter league at Cayton Bay.This year has seen our juvenile anglers again fighting it out with Joe Harrison coming out on top this year. The full results and league tables can be found on our popular FBAS website and our facebook page. Andrew Carpenter won the heaviest Flat fish prize which will means a lot to Andrew and his family as Ken his father always sponsors this match and sadly passed away this last year, well done Andrew we are all sure Ken will be smiling down on us.

After last year’s popular addition of buy 7 matches for the price of 5 we are doing it again this year for the summer league ,below you will find the dates for the matches.

The summer league matches and the festival are now subject to our new Summer Boundaries which are West Pier Whitby(River Esk out of bounds) to South Pier Bridlington this takes in two areas which are subject to different rules we have our code of conduct with the RSPB please see note below and also the no take zone which goes from Bridlington edge of Danes Dyke to Sewerby Steps this is a national no take zone set up by Natural England and NESFC in 2010.

For those of you wanting to get fishing again, the popular Summer Matches will start on the 25th May. Please remember that there is a limit of 20 mackerel in the Summer Matches and in the festival either shore or boat matches . Please remember that there is no fishing from Bempton Bird Sanctuary cliff tops north side of Dyke End, this entire area is now out of bounds day and night from 1st March to 1st October. The “Code of Conduct” agreed with the RSPB at Bempton is available to view on the FBAS website, and we encourage all our Club members to make themselves familiar with this. Please note that there is still a EU Council regulation with regard to NO Bass being able to be retained/bought to the scales hence the note above and this message, If you haven’t already please sign the petition online or at coble landing to keep our Sea Trout anglers fishing. New FBAS fish sizes are Dogfish 40cm and Smoothhounds are 70cm plus Whiting are the same as the new winter size of 32cm

Work is now underway to organise the festival, so if you would like to donate a prize or sponsor a match, or even have an advert in the brochure, please contact the secretary or Andy Colling as soon as possible. All our new members are asked to please support the Fishing Festival by way of a prize or sponsorship for any match.

If you would prefer to receive further letters and communications from the Society by email, please let our Secretary, Scott Blowman know – his email address is at the top of this letter. This would be really helpful as we can cut down on printing and posting costs. Also take a look at our club website (www.fileybrigganglingsociety.co.uk) which is regularly updated with all match results and club news. So Scott can update our records and to be able to send group text messages and group emails could we ask that if possible can you email Scott your current details so we can update our records.

As always, a massive thank you to all the committee, members and patrons of FBAS who together make such a successful society.
