SPRING/SUMMER NEWSLETTER 2017

Welcome to the 2017 spring/summer newsletter.

The society held its Annual Winter Fishing Presentation in March at the Buccaneer and was once again well attended, with prizes on the evening presented by Richard Casling from one of our main festival supporters The Filey Snooker Centre. A league winner was Iain Sellers who couldn’t attend the night but iain’s parents came and enjoyed a good meal and a great night, B league winner was Callum Murton.  Congratulations to all the winners and all the anglers who competed in the Winter League .A big congratulations to Richard Haxby with a wonderful specimen Cod of 12.11.8 caught in his new back garden at Cayton Bay.This year has seen our juvenile entries swell from 4 entries last year to 53 this year which is fantastic for the future of our club and made weighing in on a Saturday teatime at the Foords an event not to be missed with the juveniles all baying for top spot.  The full results and league tables can be found on our popular FBAS website and our facebook page. Two new honorary life members were presented on the night with this special award and certificate on the night much to their surprise, Mark Colling and Pete Watson are the men in question and received the awards from our chairman Andy Colling on the night.

After last year’s popular addition of buy 7 matches for the price of 5 we are doing it again this year for the summer league ,below you will find the dates for the matches.

The summer league matches and the festival are now subject to our new Summer Boundaries which are West Pier Whitby(River Esk out of bounds) to South Pier Bridlington this takes in two areas which are subject to different rules we have our code of conduct with the RSPB please see note below and also the no take zone which goes from Bridlington edge of Danes Dyke to Sewerby Steps this is a national no take zone set up by Natural England and NESFC in 2010.

For those of you wanting to get fishing again, the popular Summer Matches will start on the 25th May.  Please remember that there is a limit of 10 mackerel in the Summer Matches. Please remember that there is no fishing from Bempton Bird Sanctuary cliff tops north side of Dyke End, this entire area is now out of bounds day and night from 1st March to 1st October.  The “Code of Conduct” agreed with the RSPB at Bempton is  available to view on the FBAS website, and we encourage all our Club members to make themselves familiar with this.  Please note that there is also a new EU Council regulation with regard to no Bass being able to be retained/bought to the scales until 1st July. After the 1st July 1 Bass can be retained/bought to the scales. New FBAS fish sizes are Dogfish 40cm and Smoothhounds are 70cm plus Whiting are the same as the new winter size of 32cm
