MAY 2011 NEWSLETTER
Welcome to the F.B.A.S. Spring Newsletter. This Year’s winter fishing got off to a splendid start, with some anglers catching up to 12 fish on a good night’s fishing. Unfortunately the cold weather in December seemed to slow things down a bit.
The ‘A’ and ‘B’ Leagues were a close run affair with only a few pounds separating the leaders for most of the season. Robbie Harrison took the lead in the final weeks and held on to it to enjoy another huge trophy haul. Pete Dunn enjoyed a good first year, lifting the ‘B’ League trophy on his first attempt, and Rhys Colling made a clean sweep in the Juvenile League.
Thanks must go again to all the people who make the winter fishing possible, particularly Frank and Lilian for their efficient booking in service and keeping all in order. Also thank you to the weigher-inners for their services during the winter fishing matches. Please find enclosed a list of all the final winter fishing results and league tables.
The Society is running an extra competition this year called “The Accumulator”. It will be points based; anglers will collect points from a mixture of Open and Club matches, eight in total spread across the year. The competition will cost £10.00 to enter and is for members only. All monies will be split 60, 30, 10. Ten points will be awarded to the highest placed angler taking part in the Accumulator from each of the eight matches listed, nine points for second and so on. Only one set of points from each match will be allowed. The matches will be:-
1. Sunday 19th June – Foords Open (10 heaviest fish)
2. Sunday 17th July – summer match (10 heaviest aggregate)
3. Sunday 4th September – Fishing Festival (10 heaviest aggregate)
4. Sunday 11th September – North of England – (10 heaviest aggregate)
5. Sunday 30th October – John Smith’s Open (10 heaviest fish)

Andy Colling is organising this competition, so please contact him to pay your £10 for the 8 match Accumulator!

Just a reminder – if any member fishing in a shore match, or even when just pleasure fishing happens to hook a big fish, they may be entered for the “Titch Trophy” with a £50 prize sponsored by the F.B.A.S. To qualify the fish must be weighed in at the Club Headquarters (the Foords) by the official weigher-in or by a committee member. The competition runs from 1st January to 31st December.
The Society is updating its insurance requirements, Rules and Constitution at the moment so keep a look out for any changes in this year’s Fishing Festival Brochure. Also don’t forget to view the F.B.A.S. website for all Club news and future results.
