Winter Fishing Rules

1. The Club shall be called the Filey Brigg Angling Society.

2. Membership for the year shall be paid from end of September

Social £3 (to go on Annual Outing only)

All members are asked to join in and support the Club with the following social and fishing events: Winter Fishing – October through to February (approx 22 weeks). Competitions are held on the following days at the times state: Monday and Wednesday commence 6.30pm weigh in by 10.30pm prompt. Saturday commence 3pm weigh in by 7pm prompt. There are no boundaries for these matches but you must book in before taking part.

Entrance fees – Adults £2.50. Juveniles £1. Includes sweep for heaviest single fish and roll up. There must be at least 5 entries in any week for there to be a competition.

Book in with Frank and Lillian Colling, 41 Grange Avenue, Filey (phone 01723 515430) after 5.30pm for Monday/Wednesday matches, and after 2pm for Saturday matches.

Anyone owing entry money for 3 weeks will not be allowed to fish any more matches until arrears are paid.

All fish weigh in at Club Headquarters (rear of Hope Street).

3. No person to fish the winter competitions until they have paid their annual membership.

4. No competitor may have fitted up at the same time, more than one rod with reel and running line, and not with more than two hooks attached (i.e. treble counts as one hook).

5. Float, bottom and artificial fishing allowed.

6. Any person may cast for a competitor who wishes for their assistance, but no one other than the competitor may handle the rod after the cast has been made.

7. Competitors may receive the help of any one person to gaff, or assist him or her in landing a fish, but they must not handle the rod in doing so

8. No fishing allowed on the same day as any match except anglers entering boating competitions.

9. The decision of the committee member in charge of weighing in, regarding time, to be final and in all matters relating to competitions and functions, the decision of the committee is final.

10. Special Prizes –

1) Titch Trophy – heaviest single fish – to be weighed in at the FBAS Club House by the official weigher in or committee member.

2) Specimen fish of the year -Fish to be weighed in on any tested scales at any recognised Club to qualify for Special Prizes (winter fishing).

11. In the interest of conservation the F.B.A.S. minimum fish sizes shall be: CONGER 91cm, SKATE, RAY 46cm, COMMON EEL, GARFISH 38cm, COD 36cm, COALFISH (BILLET), POLLACK, HAKE, BRILL, TURBOT, WITCHES, WRASSE 35cm, WHITING 33cm, BASS 41cm, MACKEREL, HADDOCK 30cm, LEMON SOLE, PLAICE 27cm, LING 70cm, COMMON SOLE, DAB POUTING 25cm. Measurements from the tip of the jaw to the tip of the tail, all fish other than above 25cm. ROCKLING are banned.

Any competitor who presents a fish to the scales that has been manhandled (stretched) will be disqualified from that competition.

12. Neither the committee nor the Filey Brigg Angling Society shall be held responsible for damage, loss or injury by any person in connection with the competition.

13. Any breach of these rules shall disqualify any competitor committing such breach, and shall debar him or her from receiving the prize offered.

14. All protests accompanied by a deposit of £1 shall be sent to The Secretary, who shall notify the member concerned that the matter will be considered at the next monthly meeting. Should the complaint be proved well founded the deposit will be returned. If otherwise it will go to the Club funds.
